Brand Al Haramain Perfumes

A whole wardrobe of oud in one box

I picked up the Al Haramain Amber Oud Gift Set because I kept seeing people talk about Amber Oud Gold online, and instead of gambling on one big bottle, this kit gives you four 60 ml bottles plus a travel atomiser. So you’re basically getting a small perfume shelf in one go: Gold, Bleu, White and Carbon. All of them are Eau de Parfum and based around amber and oud, so expect strong and pretty heavy scents, not light body sprays.

To be clear, I’m not a perfumer or anything, just someone who likes trying new scents and normally buys stuff like Dior Sauvage, Versace Eros, and some Zara clones. Arabic-style perfumes were a bit new for me, and I mainly wanted to see if I could actually wear them day to day without smelling like I emptied an incense shop on myself. I’ve been using this set for about three weeks, rotating one scent per day and keeping the travel atomiser in my bag.

My first impression: these are strong, and a couple of them lean pretty sweet and loud. If you’re used to very fresh, light designer scents, this will be a small shock at the start. But they do smell nice once you get used to that richer style. They last a long time on skin and even longer on clothes, which is good if you like value, but bad if you over-spray and regret it.

Overall, this set feels like a practical way to test the Amber Oud line without committing to one bottle. It’s not perfect – you probably won’t love all four equally – but in my case I ended up with two I really like, one that’s “okay if I’m in the mood”, and one that I’ll probably only use rarely. For the price, that’s still a pretty solid hit rate.

Is it actually good value for money?

★★★★★ ★★★★★

When you break down the price versus what you get, the value is pretty solid. You’re getting four 60 ml Eau de Parfum bottles plus a travel atomiser. That’s 240 ml of fairly strong juice in total. If you compare that to buying one or two designer bottles at a department store, you’re usually paying a similar or higher price for less juice and sometimes weaker performance. Here, even if you fully use only two of the four and the other two just sit there, you’re not really losing out.

The other angle is that this set lets you test four scents from the same line instead of blind-buying one big bottle and maybe regretting it. For example, if I had bought just Amber Oud Gold in 100 ml, I would have been stuck with a scent that I like, but only in specific situations. With this set, I ended up using Bleu a lot more, and if I ever want a full bottle of something, I now know exactly which one I’d pick. So in that sense, it saves you from a bad blind buy.

That said, it’s not perfect value if you absolutely hate one or two of the scents. If your taste leans heavily towards only fresh, light fragrances, you might find Gold and Carbon too intense and end up not using half the set. In that case, you’d be better off buying just a single fresh perfume you already know you like. Also, keep in mind there are cheaper clone houses that give similar vibes for less money, but usually with less nice packaging and sometimes weaker performance.

Overall, for someone curious about Arabic-style scents and wanting variety, I’d call this good value. You get strong performance, four different profiles, and a decent presentation. It’s not a crazy bargain, but it feels fair for what’s in the box, especially if you actually rotate through all four instead of letting them collect dust.

Bottles, sprayer and that travel atomiser

★★★★★ ★★★★★

Design-wise, the bottles are fairly chunky rectangles with a metal-looking top section and different colours for each edition. They’re not delicate display pieces, but they feel sturdy enough and the caps click on properly. I’ve tossed two of them into a bag a few times (not recommended, but I did it) and they didn’t leak or crack. The design is a bit flashy in a Middle Eastern way – shiny, gold, bold colours – so if you like minimal, Muji-style aesthetics, this will feel a bit loud on your shelf.

The sprayers themselves are decent. You get a medium mist, not super fine like some expensive designer bottles, but not a cheap jet either. Around 2–3 sprays is honestly enough because these are strong. The main thing I noticed is that the sprays are consistent across all four bottles, so they probably use the same hardware. No dud atomiser in my set, which is more than I can say for some pricier brands I’ve had.

The extra travel atomiser is actually more useful than I expected. You can decant from whichever bottle you want and keep it in your pocket or bag. It’s not one of those bottom-refill ones; you have to unscrew and pour or spray into it, which is a bit fiddly, but once it’s filled, it doesn’t leak and the spray is fine. I used it on a weekend trip and it survived being thrown in a washbag without any drama.

Overall, the design is more practical than fancy. It’s not going to impress hardcore bottle collectors, but as an everyday user, I care more that the caps stay on, the sprayer doesn’t spit, and nothing leaks in my bag. On those points, this set does the job without any big complaints. If I had to nitpick, the bottles take up a lot of space, so a smaller footprint would have been nice.

How each scent actually smells in real life

★★★★★ ★★★★★

This is the part that matters: how do these four actually smell on skin? I’ll keep it simple and in normal language. Amber Oud Gold is the loud sweet one. On me it opens very fruity and sweet, with a kind of juicy vibe and a warm base that feels like vanilla and amber. There’s oud in the name but I don’t get a harsh barnyard oud at all, more of a soft woody background. It projects a lot, and people will smell it from a few metres away for the first couple of hours. Good for evenings or colder days; in hot weather it can feel a bit heavy.

Amber Oud Bleu is the one that will feel most familiar if you wear mainstream designer scents. It’s fresh, a bit citrusy with a blue shower-gel type feel, but with more depth and a slightly woody dry-down. Think along the lines of Dior Sauvage/Versace Dylan Blue style, but with an Arabic twist. This is the one I ended up using most for work because it’s easier to wear and doesn’t feel too formal or too sweet.

Amber Oud White smells cleaner and a bit powdery on my skin. There’s some brightness at the top, then it settles into something that reminds me slightly of clean laundry mixed with a soft amber. Less aggressive than Gold, less obviously masculine than Bleu. I can see this one working well on women or for guys who don’t want that strong “cologne guy” vibe. It’s more of a skin scent after a few hours, which can be nice if you don’t want to gas out the office.

Amber Oud Carbon is the darkest of the four. Woodier, a bit smoky, and more serious. It’s the one that feels most like a traditional Middle Eastern-inspired fragrance: deeper, more resinous, a bit spicy. I use it on colder evenings; during the day in warm weather it was a bit too much for me. Overall, the set genuinely gives four different moods: sweet, fresh, clean and dark. You’ll probably have a clear favourite after a week. For me it’s Bleu for daily wear and Gold for nights out; White is okay, Carbon is more occasional.

Gift-ready, but a bit bulky to store

★★★★★ ★★★★★

The outer packaging is clearly designed with gifting in mind. It comes in a large, rigid box with a neat layout inside: each of the four bottles in its own slot, plus the travel atomiser. When you first open it, it looks pretty premium for the price, and if you’re giving this as a present, you don’t really need to add much beyond maybe some wrapping paper. It definitely has that “special occasion” vibe when you unbox it.

From a practical point of view though, the box is big and takes up a lot of room. After the first week, I just pulled everything out and stored the perfumes separately because the box was hogging half a drawer. The inner plastic insert holds the bottles securely, so they won’t rattle around during shipping, but it’s not really something you’ll keep using day to day unless you want them all stored flat in a drawer.

Protection-wise, it did its job. My set arrived with no damage, no loose caps, and no leaking. The cardboard is thick enough that I’d be comfortable ordering this as a gift to be shipped directly to someone, assuming the courier doesn’t play football with it. I’ve had more expensive fragrances show up with dented boxes; this one arrived in better shape than some designer brands I’ve ordered.

So, packaging: nice to look at, practical as a gift, a bit annoying for long-term storage. No fancy magnetic closures or anything, but that’s not really an issue for me. Once you’ve opened it and taken photos (if you’re into that), the box mostly becomes recycling or a storage box you forget in a cupboard.

Longevity, projection and real-world use

★★★★★ ★★★★★

Performance is where this set justifies its price. All four are Eau de Parfum and they behave like it. On my skin, each scent lasts easily 7–9 hours, sometimes longer, especially Gold and Carbon. On clothes, they stick until you wash them. I sprayed Gold on a hoodie and could still smell it clearly the next day. So if you’re used to weak body sprays that disappear in two hours, this is a different world.

Projection (how far it radiates) is also strong, especially for Gold and Carbon. With 3 sprays of Gold (neck, chest, back of neck), I had people commenting from a couple of metres away within the first hour. After around 3–4 hours, it calms down and sits closer to the skin. Bleu and White are a bit more controlled; they still project, but they’re less likely to dominate a small room. For the office, I found 1–2 sprays of Bleu or White plenty. Anything more, especially with Gold, is too much in a small meeting room.

In practice, you really don’t need to over-spray these. At first I did 5–6 sprays out of habit (because a lot of designer scents fade fast), and I ended up with a headache and my partner telling me to open a window. Once I dropped to 2–3 sprays, it was much more comfortable and still easily lasted the whole workday. So the bottles will last a long time if you don’t go crazy.

Overall, performance is a strong point but can also be a downside if you’re sensitive to strong scents. If you hate long-lasting perfume, this isn’t for you. If you want something that gets you through a full day or a night out without topping up every couple of hours, this set does that very well. Just be ready to go easy on the trigger, especially with Gold and Carbon.

What you actually get in the box

★★★★★ ★★★★★

In the box you get four 60 ml bottles: Amber Oud Gold, Bleu, White, and Carbon, plus a small travel atomiser. They’re all Eau de Parfum, so stronger than the average Eau de Toilette you’d find on a high street shelf. Each bottle is a proper glass bottle with a cap, not mini samples, so you’re basically set for a long time if you rotate them. The brand pushes this as unisex, and I’d say that’s mostly true, though some lean more masculine, some more unisex.

The set is clearly aimed at gifting: big box, everything laid out nicely, each bottle in its own cut-out. If you give this as a present, it looks more expensive than the actual price, which is always nice. But from a user point of view, the box is quite bulky, so after the first week I just pulled all the bottles out and stored them on a shelf. The travel atomiser is a useful addition though; I actually use that part every day, more than I expected.

What I liked is that each fragrance has a different vibe instead of being four nearly identical oud bombs. Roughly, in everyday words: Gold is sweet and loud, Bleu is fresher and a bit more "blue designer" style, White feels cleaner and slightly more soapy, and Carbon is darker and woodier. So you really can match them to mood or weather instead of just having four versions of the same scent.

So in practice, presentation-wise, it ticks the “giftable” box and the “usable” box. It’s not ultra fancy like niche brands with crazy bottles, but for a mid-range fragrance set it looks solid on a dresser and doesn’t feel cheap. The main selling point here is variety more than luxury packaging, and on that front, it delivers.

Pros

  • Four distinct scents (Gold, Bleu, White, Carbon) that actually smell different and cover different moods
  • Very strong longevity and projection, especially for the price
  • Good gift presentation and includes a practical travel atomiser

Cons

  • Some scents (especially Gold and Carbon) can feel too heavy or sweet if you prefer light fragrances
  • Bulky box and flashy bottle style that take up space and won’t suit everyone’s taste

Conclusion

Editor's rating

★★★★★ ★★★★★

After a few weeks of using the Al Haramain Amber Oud Gift Set, my honest take is that it’s a solid, no-nonsense way to get into richer Arabic-style scents without betting everything on one bottle. The four fragrances are genuinely different: Gold is loud and sweet, Bleu is the easy daily one, White is clean and softer, and Carbon is dark and woody. Performance is strong across the board, so you’re not paying for weak juice that disappears after lunch.

It’s not perfect. If you only like super fresh, minimal scents, at least two of these will probably feel too heavy. The box is also bulky, and the overall design is a bit flashy if you prefer understated stuff. But as a gift, or as a way to build a small fragrance wardrobe in one go, it makes sense. You’re getting 240 ml of Eau de Parfum plus a useful travel atomiser at a price that’s roughly what you’d pay for one mid-range designer bottle.

I’d say this set suits people who enjoy strong, long-lasting perfumes and don’t mind a bit of sweetness or woodiness. Good for someone who likes to switch things up depending on the day or the weather. If you’re very sensitive to strong scents, or you only ever wear super light citrus sprays, I’d skip this and look for something gentler. For everyone else, especially if you’re curious about Arabian-style fragrances, it’s a pretty solid package with more hits than misses.
